What is Solacryl SUVT Acrylic?

Solacryl® is a crystal clear acrylic sheet product that equals the finest optical glass. Due to its extremely high clarity and transmission of ultraviolet radiation, it is ideal for use in the development of both sun tanning beds and animal habitats.

Solacryl® SUVT is, quite simply, the highest clarity acrylic available in the sun tanning industry and it maintains a high transmission of ultraviolet radiation for years.

Primates, reptiles and other species need vitamin D to properly utilize calcium. In the wild, their bodies readily synthesize this vitamin when exposed to sunlight. Enclosed animals must rely on transmitted rather than direct solar rays. They run the risk of vitamin D deficiency which can lead to withdrawal of calcium from their bones, and ultimately to rickets (osteomalacia) and impaired cellular metabolism.

As skylights in zoos, Solacryl® SUVT allows the passage of ultraviolet radiance that is beneficial to the health and well-being of animals in captivity. A recent independent study showed Solacryl® SUVT to be far superior to other skylight materials, including polycarbonate, fiberglass, vinyl and “Teflon”.
